Red Seal Carpenter, North Island College, 2021
Coming from a family of teachers, I always wanted to be a teacher once I grew up. My life had different plans for me for a while though! I accidentally fell into carpentry while volunteering on farms on Vancouver Island. While doing some DIY projects, and really enjoying it, someone suggested: “go to carpentry school!” Coming from Germany, I had no idea what the word “carpentry” even meant. I just really enjoyed working with my hands, creating something out of nothing, and the chance to not sit in an office anymore.
Off to NIC, I went to take the Carpentry Foundations class!
Fast forward many years of working and gaining experience, my perseverance and hard work was rewarded by gaining the Red Seal certification in Carpentry.
I run my own carpentry business and enjoy building beautiful things and spaces for my clients. My love for teaching never went away though, and now I get to combine both worlds by teaching carpentry to the next generation of carpenters at NIC.
I look forward to having you in my Foundations class!
