Applications open for Peer Mentors

Update (Dec. 9, 2021): This program has now changed to International Peer Connector Program. For more information, please go to https://www.nic.bc.ca/international/student-resources/peer-connections-initiative/

NIC's Office of Global Engagement is looking for peer mentoring volunteers to help welcome our new international students to the NIC community.

This is an exciting opportunity for continuing students to help new students settle and adjust to life in Canada and at NIC.

Many of you offer this kind of help already to your fellow students, but this program provides formal training, workshop retreats, a letter of reference, certification and will provide you with resume-boosting formal experience.

Peer mentors will need to be available to meet with students virtually using cellphone and laptop platforms in order to connect with their mentee.

Successful applicants will be required to participate in a one-day training seminar, mentor their assigned students one-on-one and organize student group socials through the semester.

The ideal peer mentor candidate will be able to give:
• Up to four hours/week
• A love for people and an ability to encourage new students positively with information to help them succeed
• Open-mindedness. Non-judgmental, ability to see that people from different cultures should share and exchange culture in order to grow personally
• Up to five students per semester
