The series, presented by NIC’s School of Fine Arts and DIGITAL Design + Development, creates an opportunity for the enhancement of knowledge and development of professional practice.
As a centre for contemporary art, the Comox Valley Art Gallery (CVAG) is dedicated to presenting and fostering contemporary art by professional artists from the region, the country and beyond.
“The work of galleries like CVAG are imperative to artists developing their practice and connecting artists to the public,” said Sara Vipond, NIC Fine Art faculty member and series coordinator. “Their collaborations with emerging artists and mentorship programs have helped many new artists in the region in developing their practice and preparing for gallery exhibitions.”
The talk will include three staff members from the Comox Valley Art Gallery — Executive Director Glen Sanford and two graduates of the NIC Fine Arts program: Co-curator Denise Lawson and Operations Facilitator Cassidy Gehmlich.
They will offer insights into their experience of entering the gallery world, working with professional artists and curators, and embarking on careers as cultural workers.
The presentation will take place Thursday, March 31 from 6-7pm, followed by a short question period. The event is being held online. Tickets are free and all are welcome to attend.
