The event is geared toward Grade 12 students and their families but all community members are welcome to attend.
“The transition to college can come with a lot of questions,” said Kathleen Kuhnert, NIC’s associate vice president, student services and registrar. “Our goal is to provide an opportunity for prospective students to get their questions answered and meet the individuals who will be there to support them through their time at NIC.”
NIC’s expert instructors will be available to meet and speak with students and parents about their programs and the courses they teach.
NIC staff and advisors will also be on hand to answer questions and lead two presentations, one on NIC programs and university partnership agreements and one on NIC trades training. Both presentations will also include information on services, supports, funding opportunities and the admissions process.
“When you come to NIC you become part of the NIC community,” said Kuhnert. “We have a variety of services and supports to help students be successful in their time here and beyond.”
Information will be available for several new programs including the recently relaunched Professional Photography certificate, and a new evening and weekend Early Childhood care and Education program.
Registration is now open for January starts in university studies, business, tourism and hospitality, health care assistant, carpentry, plumbing and other trades and technical programs.
Students who apply on information night will have their application fee waived. Attendees will also be able to enter a draw for a $500 tuition credit.
The information night takes place at the Trades Training Building at the Comox Valley campus, from 6:30 to 8 pm.
Presentations
Presentations will be held at 6:35 and 7:15 (each presentation will run twice)
Pathways and Partnerships includes an overview of NIC programs, services, supports and funding opportunities. It will also cover partnership agreements with UVIC and VIU to complete degree programs and other pathway possibilities in health, human services, sciences and the arts. It will also describe the process of applying to NIC right through to your first day of college.
NIC Trades Training will be facilitated by Cheryl O’Connell, NIC's dean of trades and technical programs and Doug Podetz, Industry Training Authority apprenticeship advisor, and will cover how trades training works, early entry possibilities available in high school (Youth Train in Trades), and an overview of the trades and technical programs offered at NIC. The presentation will also include exciting updates to the Campbell River campus trades programs.
