“The students put a lot of hard work into these projects and the sheds are now looking for their forever homes,” said Cheryl O’Connell, NIC’s dean of trades and technical programs. “This is a chance to get a high-quality, well-built storage or work shed for your yard while supporting local students.”
NIC and School District 72 students built three sheds last year as part an Industry Training Authority sponsored Trades Sampler program. The pilot program provided Grade 11 and 12 students an opportunity to explore trades programming as they consider their career options.
“It’s a chance for students to gain invaluable exposure to theory and hands-on training in a variety of trades including carpentry, electrical, auto service tech, heavy mechanical, plumbing and welding before they graduate,” said O’Connell, who thanked Diana Camerin, Timberline Secondary and SD72 career facilitator, for the pilot program’s success.
Each shed is six feet wide, eight feet long and nine feet, two inches high. It weighs approximately 1,000 lbs. Each features a window, workbench, double doors, a wired light socket and an electrical outlet.
The starting bid for each shed is $1,000. The winning bidder will be responsible for arranging delivery.
