Johnson, who is from the Wewaikai Nation, was recognized for "making a difference for young people in Campbell River."
She teaches Liqwala/Kwak’wala language and culture to Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and teaches doctors and nurses about traditional plants and medicines.
Johnson also fundraises for events like Paddle to Lummi, a canoe expedition that celebrates Coast Salish people and culture, and has journeyed alongside youth on similar trips.
