Sinoy is the Scrum Master / Agile Coach at Telus Digital and will lead two workshops on Agile Project Management, the first on Friday, April 30 at 9:30 am. The workshop will examine the ‘Agile way of working’ and how it addresses the pitfalls of traditional project management methodologies when developing software.
“We’re excited to welcome Al for this two-part workshop series,” said Ashley Blacquiere, NIC faculty member and series coordinator. “One of the biggest components to any project is the management of the project itself – keeping track of all the moving pieces and ensuring you can hit your deadlines. Having effective tools to project manage can make the difference between a project’s success and failure.”
This workshop will include some interactive and discussion components along with an overview of the Agile Manifesto, distinctions between traditional Waterfall and Agile project management styles, and typical roles within Agile. The workshop will conclude with a high-level overview of the mechanics of the project management framework Scrum.
The Ingenuity on Edge series is new to NIC this term. Led by the DIGITAL Design + Development faculty, the virtual workshops bring together industry experts, students, faculty and members of the public to learn about the latest trends and technological improvements related to the field of user experience design, mobile app and software development, and digital marketing.
Previous speakers have included Jen Rollins from the Update Company and Alex Dunae, a local developer and part of the team behind tickit.ca.
Along with sharing expertise, the workshops give NIC’s DIGITAL Design + Development students the opportunity to connect with industry contacts and see where careers in design and development can take them, noted Blacquiere.
NIC’s DIGITAL Design + Development programs focus on developing in-depth, employment-ready skills, teaching students to confidently design and code beautiful, highly functional digital products. Students can chose between the design stream, focusing on branding, graphic design and front-end web development, the development stream, focused on programming languages and tools for web and app development, or combine the two streams in the advanced diploma.
Ingenuity on Edge: Al Sinoy takes place Friday, April 30 from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. The workshop is free to attend. You can register at https://nicart.tickit.ca/.
