NIC Fest comes back to the Campbell River campus March 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. The event provides a chance for anyone interested to check out the training and educational opportunities available to them in the community.
“NIC Fest is a great opportunity for people to come and see the amazing programs our college has to offer,” said Craig Whitton, Director, Student Affairs, NIC.
At NIC Fest, anyone can:
- learn about upcoming training opportunities;
- tour classrooms, shops, studios, labs, study space and the Indigenous lounge;
- talk to regional employers at Career Central Live networking events;
- meet faculty, support staff and NIC alumni;
- enjoy free snacks and giveaways;
- enter our prize draws, including three $1,000 tuition bursaries courtesy of the NIC Foundation; or
- get an exclusive code to waive your application fee.
There will be information on programs such as trades and technical, university arts and sciences, business and office administration, human services, health and continuing education. NIC Fest will provide opportunities to learn more about supports and services like accessible learning services, educational advising, financial aid and awards, library, alumni relations, international education, Student Life and the NIC Foundation, among others.
There will be other opportunities to find out more from the Centre for Applied Research and Technological Innovation (CARTI), nursing, the library and the student union. Several employers will also be taking part in Career Central Live, including NIC, Island Health, Skilled Trades BC, BC Emergency Health Services (PHSA), BC Construction Association, Broadstreet Properties and Seymour Pacific, Chan Nowosad Boates, MNP LLP and School District 72.
From 5:30 to 7 p.m., there will also be a parent and supporter information night.
The college began holding NIC Fest three years ago. Anyone can take advantage of the opportunity, from students in secondary school to working people wanting to learn about new skills or considering a new career.
“Whether a person is wanting to spin up a business of their own, find a way to work in one of our many diverse industries in our region or simply expand their knowledge through interest programming, NIC Fest is their chance to see just how much is possible right here in their back yard – no travel to the mainland necessary,” Whitton said. “This means more options for North Island citizens, businesses and communities to thrive, and we’re happy to be able to showcase these opportunities in what we all agree is an incredibly special place to call home.”
