Kerr will be reading at the Stan Hagen Theatre 7 pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.
Kerr is founding member of Vancouver’s Electric Company Theatre where he has worked as a playwright, director, actor and producer since 1996.
His play, Unity (1918) received the 2002 Governor General’s Literary Award and in 2015 received its professional US premiere in New York City. Studies in Motion was recently adapted as a feature-length film; Eadweard by Motion 58 Entertainment. The film was nominated for a 2016 Canadian Screen Award and is available on iTunes.
With Electric Company, he has collaborated on the creation of numerous plays including The Wake, The Score, Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands, Flop, The Fall, You Are Very Star, Brilliant! The Blinding Enlightenment of Nikola Tesla, Studies in Motion and Tear the Curtain!
Kerr is a faculty member at UVic’s Department of Writing, where he teaches playwriting and screenwriting and is at work on a series of virtual reality shorts.
“Kerr is an important Canadian playwright and we are thrilled to have him join our series,” said Nick Van Orden, NIC English instructor and series organizer. “This series showcases a diverse range of BC writers. It’s important for us to build connections between local readers and writers and some of the most prominent writers on the West Coast.”
NIC’s Write Here Readers Series showcases the richness of literary arts in our region, offering students and community members the opportunity to hear from some of Canada’s top writers. The series is made possible through the Canada Council of the Arts.
