The college hosts in-person and online orientation events for new and returning students. International students also have orientations. The in-person event is Tuesday, Sept. 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Orientation events are designed to welcome students into NIC’s inclusive and supportive community, where student well-being and growth both inside and outside the classroom are prioritized. Through orientation, students have the opportunity to start the year with confidence, knowing that they have a community committed to helping them.
“At North Island College, we believe that student success is built on strong connections, a sense of belonging, and access to the right resources,” said Mez Jiwaji, Associate Director, Student Life. “Through orientation, new and current students will have the chance to meet the people who will support them—whether it’s fellow students, faculty, staff, community members—and to explore the resources that will help them thrive.”
The in-person orientations are a chance for students to become connected with the college, their home campus and community partners. As always, there will be a community marketplace, lots of information about supports available, and students can sample great food and get SWAG.
The Aug. 19-22 online sessions start at 11:30 a.m. Students taking part in the virtual orientation have several sessions they can choose from: Navigating NIC's Digital Platforms; Student Life at NIC; Supports for Success; and Meet Your North Island Students’ Union.
Fall classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 3. There is more information about in-person or online events at www.nic.bc.ca/orientation. Anyone with questions can email orientation@nic.bc.ca.
