The annual event takes place at each NIC campus to mark the start of the new school year and to welcome students, staff and faculty back to campus.
“Orientation Day is a chance for students to meet their peers, faculty and NIC staff and learn about the services and supports that are available to them throughout the year,” said Caitlin Hartnett, NIC Mount Waddington campus and community coordinator.
NIC’s regional campus in Port Hardy offers tourism and hospitality management programs, early childhood care and education, upgrading, and online university transfer programs and courses this fall.
The popular Awi’nakola program, offering tuition-free math, English and Kwak’wala language courses focused on a land, sea and sky theme, also returns this year.
Campus tours begin at 11:30, followed by lunch and activities throughout the afternoon.
“It’s an opportunity for students to get to know each other and NIC faculty and staff outside of the classroom,” said Hartnett. Several community organizations including NVIATS, the Sacred Wolf Friendship Centre, the Mount Waddington Food Initiative, Building Blocks and Community Futures will also be on site to share information.
Community members interested in attending NIC are encouraged to attend to learn more about the courses and programs available through NIC.
