The new bursary will provide $1,000 each year to an NIC student at the Comox Valley campus who is pursuing studies in a health care field working with older adults, with preference for students in the Health Care Assistant certificate program.
“We’re so pleased to be able to support NIC students through this new bursary,” said Michael Syer, chair of Comox Valley ElderCollege. “Our members believe in giving back and supporting young people as they pursue their studies.”
The new CVEC 20th Anniversary Bursary is the third endowed award created by Comox Valley ElderCollege. The Betty Emery Founders Bursary and the Elizabeth Smith Founders Bursary are named after the founders of Comox Valley ElderCollege and support students continuing their studies in a field that relates to working with older adults.
“These awards make a huge difference in the lives of NIC students,” said Ilona Horgen, Chair of the NIC Foundation. “We’re grateful to the Comox Valley ElderCollege members for their continued support of NIC students through these bursaries.”
The NIC Foundation has been advancing student success, education and community growth through NIC for more than 26 years.
