What's an Associate Degree
An associate degree is a two-year academic program made up of 60 credits of university courses. An associate degree is a stand-alone provincial credential you can list on your resume and is made up of courses that are transferable to university if you want to ladder into a degree.
What you’ll study
An Associate of Arts degree with a pre-Social Work focus is made up of 60 credits of 100-level and 200-level courses. You’ll choose from a range of university transfer courses in English, social sciences and humanities as part of the Associate of Arts degree, along with specific courses toward your pre-social work speciality, including SSW 120: Social Welfare in Canada and SSW 122: Foundation of Social Service Practice. OPPORTUNITIES BEYOND THE ASSOCIATE OF ARTS – PRE-SOCIAL WORK
With the completion of your Associate of Arts degree with a pre-Social Work focus, you’ll be in a position to apply for third-year entry into a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program in British Columbia. Please note, you’ll need to meet specific BSW admission requirements. As a result, all students are encouraged to review the admission requirements at the university they are intending to undertake their BSW studies before beginning the Associate of Arts degree. Students interested in pursuing a BSW after program completion should make an appointment with an NIC educational advisor to develop a full study plan.
