Field schools
Short exchanges, unforgettable experiences
Field schools are study abroad opportunities that allow you to travel with an NIC instructor and other students and course credits. They typically run for two to three weeks – making them a good option if you want to gain travel experience with a shorter time and financial commitment. Recently, our students have travelled to field schools in New Zealand, Spain, Japan, Jordan and Hawaii.

NIC is a proud member of the Western Canada Mobility Network (WCMN), a study abroad network that includes a total of nine Canadian post-secondary institutions. Being an NIC student means accessing an expanded network of field school opportunities through WCMN.
WCMN was established through funding from the Global Skills Opportunity program.
Is a field school an affordable option for me?
Due to their shorter length, field schools typically cost much less than an exchange program. Your field school fees will often include the following expenses:
- Course tuition
- Program and administrative fees
- Shared accommodations
- Flights
- Meals
- Travel insurance
- Daily transportation
There are financial supports from international organizations that can fund your studies.
Am I eligible?
There are three basic criteria students must meet to qualify for an exchange.
- Maintain good academic standing as a current student enroled in a program
- Complete at least one full semester prior to the exchange
- Have a valid passport prior to your travel date
If you’re ready to start planning your exchange, it's time to start your application.
